After five Curry Bible outings across Yorkshire and beyond, we finally made our way to Jinnah in Selby.
This was one we had heard about for a long time. The whispers were there. The reputation was there. The expectation was there.
And this time, the hype was not empty.
Jinnah did not just deliver a good curry night. It came dangerously close to setting the standard.
Located at 12A Park Street, Selby, YO8 4PW, Jinnah is a well-known Indian restaurant in the centre of Selby, serving Indian, Asian and Balti dishes. It has the look and feel of a proper established curry house, but without losing the warmth you want when a big table turns up hungry and ready to judge everything.
This was also our biggest Curry Bible turnout so far.
Regulars Damon, Jack, Hamish, Luke and Louis were joined by guest attendees Curt, Mini and Keiran. Oliver sadly could not make this one, which is unfortunate, because this was exactly the sort of night people do not shut up about afterwards.
Eight seats filled. Eight scorecards. One very serious curry contender.
The final Curry Bible score was 8.41/10.
That made Jinnah the strongest Curry Bible performance to date.

The Curry Bible Verdict
Jinnah felt like a statement.
Some curry houses are good because one thing stands out. Maybe the food is excellent but the service is average. Maybe the room looks great but the value is questionable. Maybe one dish carries the entire night on its back like a spicy little hero.
Jinnah was different.
This was a full experience.
The atmosphere was polished but comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient. Drinks came quickly. The décor felt warm and sophisticated. The starters arrived sizzling, theatrical and full of smell, smoke and curry-house drama.
And then came the hanging naans.
Ridiculous. Massive. Beautiful.
The kind of naan that enters the room like it has its own booking.
They were not just there for show either. They were huge, properly flavoured, and instantly became the talking point of the night. Every curry house wants a signature moment. Jinnah has one hanging above the table like a curtain of carbohydrate glory.
But gimmicks only get you so far.
The real reason Jinnah scored so highly was the food.
The mains were rich, colourful, spicy and consistent. Heat levels were well judged. Portion sizes were generous. The dishes looked the part and tasted the part. Several members said this was the best food Curry Bible had had so far, which is not a casual claim at this table.
For drinks, poppadoms, pickles, sizzling starters, mains, rice and the giant naans, the bill came to around £38–£42 per person.
For the quality and amount of food, that felt like strong value.

| Service | 8.5 |
| Taste | 6.6 |

|---|---|
| Menu Choice | 9.1 |
| Service | 8 |
| Taste | 8.7 |
| Drinks | 8.5 |

What Jinnah Got Right
Jinnah’s biggest strength was that it made the whole night feel big.
Not fake big. Not “we bought some fancy lights and doubled the prices” big.
Proper big.
The starters had theatre. The naans were memorable. The mains were rich and full of colour. The portions were generous. The service kept up with a large table. The atmosphere matched the food. The value made sense when the bill arrived.
That is why the score landed so high.
A curry house does not get 8.41/10 from eight people by accident. With a table that size, someone usually drags the score down. Someone usually has a flat dish. Someone usually gets forgotten. Someone usually decides the bill has personally offended them.
But Jinnah held the night together.
That is impressive.
The Hanging Naan Situation
We need to talk about the hanging naans properly.
They were enormous. Absolutely unnecessary in the best possible way.
A normal naan sits politely on a plate. A Jinnah hanging naan arrives like it owns shares in the building.
It gave the table something to laugh about, photograph, tear into, and remember. But more importantly, it actually tasted good. That is the difference between a gimmick and a proper feature.
If you are going to make bread theatrical, it still has to be worth eating.
Jinnah understood the assignment.
Final Thoughts
Jinnah did not just serve dinner.
It delivered a warning.
This was the strongest Curry Bible performance to date, and every future high-scoring restaurant now has a serious benchmark to beat.
The food was rich, spicy and generous. The starters had proper impact. The service was smooth. The drinks were strong. The value felt fair. And the hanging naans gave the night a signature moment that nobody at the table is likely to forget.
A final Curry Bible score of 8.41/10 is huge.
Would we go back? Yes.
Would we recommend it? Absolutely.
Would we call it a contender for one of the best curry houses we have reviewed so far?
Without question.
If the next restaurant wants to beat Jinnah, it had better come armed with flavour, fire, value and possibly structural engineering for the naan.
