Rana’s Doncaster Review — Curry Bible Score 6.66/10

6.7 / 10

For our first ever official Curry Bible review, we started close to home with Rana’s Indian Grill House in Doncaster.

Located on 6–8 Nether Hall Road, Doncaster, DN1 2PW, Rana’s is a local Indian restaurant with a busy, lively feel and a clear reputation in the area. On our visit, the place had a steady crowd in, which usually tells you one thing straight away: people are coming back.

That matters. Empty curry houses can be dangerous territory. Rana’s did not have that problem.

This was a good first stop for Curry Bible. Not flawless. Not elite. Not a place that blew the table apart. But a solid, enjoyable curry night with friendly service, decent food, and enough about it to make clear why it has a local following.

The final Curry Bible score came out at 6.66/10.

That score tells the story fairly well. Rana’s did plenty right, especially with service and some of the flavours, but it was dragged down by weaker scores for value and drinks. In simple terms: good curry night, but not yet troubling the top end of the leaderboard.

The Curry Bible Verdict

Rana’s gave us a strong enough opening chapter. The staff were friendly, the place had warmth, and several members of the table found things to enjoy. Service was comfortably one of the better parts of the visit, with most scores landing high in that category.

Taste also held up reasonably well. Nobody walked away calling it poor. There were some strong flavours and enough quality on the table to keep the review positive overall.

But this is Curry Bible, not a sympathy club.

The weaknesses were obvious. Value for money split the table badly, with some members feeling the experience did not quite justify the cost. Drinks also pulled the average down, especially with a couple of lower marks in that category.

That is the difference between a decent curry house and a properly dangerous one on the Curry Bible leaderboard. The best places do not just serve decent food. They make the full night feel worth it.

Rana’s was enjoyable. It was reliable. It was a good start.

But it left room above it.

Individual Curry Bible Scores

Jack’s Ratings

Category Score
Menu Choice 7
Service 8
Taste 7
Drinks 8
Value for Money 6
Average 7.2/10

Jack had the strongest overall score of the night. His marks suggest a balanced, enjoyable visit, with drinks and service doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

Louis’ Ratings

Category Score
Menu Choice 8
Service 7
Taste 8.5
Drinks 4
Value for Money 6
Average 6.7/10

Louis clearly rated the food side more highly, especially taste and menu choice. The drinks score, however, dragged the final average down hard.

Luke’s Ratings

Category Score
Menu Choice 7
Service 9
Taste 7
Drinks 5
Value for Money 6
Average 6.8/10

Luke’s score shows the same pattern: strong service, decent food, but not enough across the full experience to break into the 7s.

Oliver’s Ratings

Category Score
Menu Choice 5
Service 9
Taste 6
Drinks 3
Value for Money 7
Average 6.0/10

Oliver was less impressed overall, especially with the drinks and menu choice. His service score was excellent, though, which backs up one of Rana’s strongest points on the night.

Damon’s Ratings

Category Score
Menu Choice 6
Service 7
Taste 8
Drinks 9
Value for Money 3
Average 6.6/10

Damon rated the taste and drinks highly, but the value for money score hit hard. That tells you the experience had quality, but the price-to-satisfaction balance was not quite there.

Final Score Breakdown

Reviewer Average
Jack 7.2
Louis 6.7
Luke 6.8
Oliver 6.0
Damon 6.6
Final Curry Bible Score 6.66/10

Final Thoughts

Rana’s was a fair first review for Curry Bible.

It showed us plenty of positives: friendly staff, a busy local atmosphere, good service, and food that had enough flavour to keep the night firmly in “decent curry” territory.

But the score does not lie. 6.66/10 is not a bad result, but it is not a top-table result either. The drinks and value scores held Rana’s back, and at Curry Bible level, those things matter.

Would we call it a disaster? No.

Would we call it one of Doncaster’s best curry houses based on this visit? Also no.

Would we understand why locals go there for a casual curry night? Yes, absolutely.

Rana’s gave Curry Bible a solid start. Not a legendary one, but a solid one.
