Staff at Yorkshire Wildlife Park have been left baffled after a resident baboon reportedly created what experts are calling “the world’s first primate-designed curry.”

The baboon, known as Barry, allegedly spent several weeks collecting ingredients from around his enclosure before combining them in a plastic feeding bowl. Keepers initially assumed he was making one of his usual enrichment toys before noticing he had arranged the ingredients according to size and colour.
After a veterinary inspection confirmed the mixture was safe, a member of staff described the aroma as “surprisingly decent, with earthy notes and a worrying amount of chilli.”
The curry, dubbed Baboon Bhuna, reportedly contains sweet potato, peppers, peas, raisins and several ingredients that staff are still attempting to identify.
News of Barry’s creation spread quickly after photos appeared online, leading to dozens of visitors asking where they could buy a portion.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park has confirmed there are currently no plans to add Baboon Bhuna to its catering outlets, although one spokesperson admitted it had “received better reviews than some human-made curries.”
Barry himself declined to comment, instead throwing a carrot at a journalist and attempting to steal their notebook.
Researchers are now monitoring the baboon closely amid fears he may already be developing a follow-up dish believed to be a monkey tikka masala.
