Curry Club Review #10 – Nur, Edlington. A fantastically pleasent night
Published on 12 April, 2026
There are curry houses that impress you, there are curry houses that surprise you, and then there are curry houses that quietly force their way into the Curry Club benchmark conversation.
Nur in Edlington did exactly that.
On paper, Edlington might not be the first place you expect to find one of the stronger Curry Club showings. It is fair to say the area itself is not exactly the calmest or most glamorous corner of England, and on the night we visited, the atmosphere outside of Nur’s own control was far from ideal. Some of the other customers were loud, drunk, and disorderly to the point where conversation at our own table became a shouting match at times.
But here is the important bit: we do not score a restaurant based on the behaviour of unrelated customers, and Nur itself did very little wrong.
In fact, Nur did a hell of a lot right.
From the moment we got settled, the restaurant came across as tidy, spacious, clean, and well looked after. The dining area had room to breathe, the tables were properly presented, and the place felt like somewhere that took pride in what it was doing. It was not cramped, chaotic, or careless. It felt organised.
The staff were also excellent. Courteous, polite, attentive, and professional without being overbearing. There was no feeling of being rushed, ignored, or treated like just another table. Service like that matters, because a curry night is never just about the food. It is about the whole experience around the table.
And then came the food.
The Food
Nur delivered where it matters most.
The curries were rich, hot, well-presented, and full of flavour. The sauce had proper depth to it, the portions were generous without being ridiculous, and the dishes came across as carefully made rather than lazily thrown together. Nothing felt watery, bland, or forgettable.
The rice was bright, fresh, and well cooked, giving a proper base to the curry rather than just sitting there as filler. The naan was a standout visually and practically: large, blistered, soft in the right places, crisp in the right places, and clearly fresh. It looked like the sort of naan you hope arrives when you order one, but do not always get.
The kebab starter also looked simple but strong. No pointless decoration, no overcomplication, just properly cooked meat with salad and garnish. It had that traditional curry house feel, but done with care.
This was not a night where the food had to be defended. It spoke for itself.
Drinks
There was no drinks score for this visit because Nur operates on a bring-your-own-alcohol basis.
That does matter for the overall experience, because drinks are usually part of how Curry Club rates a venue. However, it would not be fair to punish Nur in the drinks category when the system was different from a standard licensed restaurant. We brought our own alcohol, so drinks were not scored.
The Atmosphere
This is where the review needs to be honest.
Nur itself was lovely. The restaurant was tidy, spacious, and welcoming. The staff were courteous. The food was excellent.
The issue was the other customers.
There were loud, drunk, disorderly people in the restaurant during our visit, and it did affect the experience. It made conversation difficult, and at points we had to raise our voices just to hear one another. That is frustrating, especially when the restaurant itself is doing so much right.
But we are not deducting points for this. The behaviour of other customers is not the same thing as poor food, poor service, poor value, or poor restaurant management. It was the only real negative of the evening, and importantly, it was not enough to damage what was otherwise a fantastic meal.

Final Combined Score: 8.86 / 10
An 8.86 is not handed out lightly.
That score puts Nur firmly into serious Curry Club territory. It was so good that it has already been used as a comparison point against other curry houses, which says everything. When a restaurant becomes part of the measuring stick, it has clearly done something right.
Nur gave us strong food, strong value, a comfortable setting, and genuinely courteous service. The only major negative of the night was the behaviour of other customers, and while that was irritating, it was not something we could fairly mark the restaurant down for.
Final Verdict
Nur was fantastic.
The food was top notch, the restaurant was tidy and spacious, the staff were courteous, and the overall quality was well above average. It had the feel of a curry house that knows what it is doing and does it properly.
The lack of a drinks score is simply because it was bring-your-own-alcohol, not because of any failure from the restaurant. The noisy customers were a shame, but they were not enough to derail what was otherwise an excellent Curry Club outing.
Nur in Edlington is not just good.
It is one of the better curry houses we have reviewed.
